Bedbugs

Identification

Adult bedbugs are small, about 5-7mm in length. They are reddish brown, oval shaped and flat. After feeding their bodies will sweel and become more elongated and darker.

Nymphs

Young bedbugs or nymphs are smaller and lighter in colour, often translucent. They become darker and more visible as they mature and after feeding.

Eggs

Bedbugs eggs are tiny, white and about the size of a pinhead (1mm). They are often found in clusters and can be difficult to see with the naked eye.

Behaviour

Female bedbugs can lay up to 500 eggs in their lifetime. The eggs hatch in about 6-10 days and nymphs take about 5-6 weeks to mature into adults, depending on the temperature and availability of food.

What is bedbugs?

Bedbugs are small, flat, parasitic insects that feed on human or animal blood. They are notorious for infesting homes, hotels and public places, causing discomfort, anxiety and financial losses. Bedbugs are known for their ability to hide in small crevices and their resilience, making them difficult to detect and eliminate. Bedbugs have been around for centuries and their ability to adapt and survive has made them a persistent problem worldwide.
