American Cockroach

Body Size and colour

Adult American cockroaches are large, typically from 1.5 to 2 inches in length. They have a reddish brown colour with a distinctive yellowish figure-eight pattern on the back of their heads

Wings

Both male and female American cockroaches have well-developed wings and are capable of flying short distances.

Nymphs

Young American cockroaches or nymphs, are smaller and lack wings but resemble adults in coloration.

Reproduction

Female American cockroaches can produce up to 90 egg cases (oothecae) in their lifetime, each containing 14 to 16 eggs. The egg hatch in about 6 to 8 weeks and nymphs take approximately 6 to 12 months to mature into adults.

German Cockroach

Body Size and colour

Adult German Cockroaches are small, typically about ½ to 5/8 inches in length. They have a light brown to tan coloration with two dark, parallel stripes running lengthwise just behind their head.

Wings

Both males and females have wings but they rarely fly. They are more prone to running quickly when disturbed.

Nymph

Young german cockroaches are smaller and darker than adults, often appearing almost black, with a single light stripe running down their back.

Reproduction

German cockroaches reproduce rapidly. A single female can produce up to 50 eggs at a time, and she can produce multiple egg case (oothecae) during her lifetime. The eggs hatch in about 28 days and nymph take approximately 40 to 125 days to mature into adults.

Brown-banded Cockroaches

Body Size and colour

Adult brown banded cockroaches are small, about ½ inch in length. They are light brown with two distinctive lighter bands across their wings and abdomen.

Wings

Both males and females have wings. Males can fly when disturbed while females rarely do.

Nymphs

Young Brown banded cockroaches are smaller and darker, with the same distinctive banding as adults.

Reproduction

Female brown banded cockroaches produce egg cases (oothecae) containing 14 to 18 eggs. They can produce up to 20 oothecae in their lifetime. The eggs hatch in about 50 to 75 days and nymphs take about 3 to 9 months to mature into adults.
